Windscreen aperture rust
Today we replaced a windscreen on a Hyundai i10, the customer mentioned that the windscreen was replaced around two years ago by a local company. After careful removing the windscreen we discovered the usual hack job by windscreen fitters in a hurry – the windscreen had been chopped out with stanley knife and the back of the aperture scratched causing it to rust. This would eventually rust into the roof and allow water to enter the vehicle….
As you can see from the picture the damage to the aperture was left unprimed allowing the rust to develop, we have used a wire wheel to remove the rust and reprimed to Sika recommendations. Sadly this type of damage is all to common and very damaging to the trade, if the windscreen fitter had just primed the scratch marks or used the correct tools two years previous there would be no rust!
