Interior Mirror Windscreen Break

A common problem on many vehicles when the interior mirror comes off and then someone tries to force it back on without remove the stem from the windscreen. Due to the curvature of the front windscreen in most cars, any force applied from the inside will usually result in the windscreen cracking (see picture below).

It is far easier and safer to slide the stem of the mirror off the windscreen plate and then reattached it to the mirror on a workbench. Most interior mirrors are attached to the windscreen via a metal plate, this then allows the mirror to either slide off or twist off, sometimes there will also be a allen key / grub screw which will also need to be loosened or removed.
